Students in grades four through eight are eligible to serve our Church as Altar Servers at weekly school Masses.  They also support our Church at various functions throughout the school year, such as attending to Bishop Estevez as he rededicated our school during our 10th year celebration.

Beginning in third grade, students interested in music are invited to join the Choir as they help us celebrate weekly Mass.  This wonderful group has been featured on the local news and has performed for many special events.  We also have a Drum Line that performs at Monday morning school assemblies.

Our school draws upon the theatrical skills of our students to star in an annual school play.  Last year, Willy Wonka was our feature presentation.  This school year, Annie is scheduled for a spring performance.

We have a young but energetic Chess Club that gathers to learn and practice strategy and develop critical thinking skills that will benefit them in their academic endeavors.

HFCS supports a large number of academic clubs for our students.  Students in grades four through eight are welcome to join our top-rated Math Olympiads Team, which has place in the top 2% in the world for the past three years.  Junior high students have the opportunity to compete on the Math Counts team with schools from our diocese.

We have two student clubs dedicated to the written word.  The Book Club is open to students in grades five through eight to discuss novels and share their thoughts on some wonderful works of literature.  The Battle of the Books team is a group for six through eighth graders to compete with diocesan schools on books they have read throughout the year.

Our seventh and eighth graders also form our Brain Brawl team and competes with teams at the local Catholic high school.  They study and prepare to answer questions from numerous academic disciplines.

The 4-H Club has traveled to the University of Florida for their culminating activity of the year.  Our science program works closely with UF and we have the opportunity for students to witness the miracle of life through our embryology project in which eggs are cared for and nurtured in an incubator until they hatch.  Last year, the second graders wrote, illustrated, and printed a book entitled, Shelly’s Journey.

The Student Government Association sponsors many of our service projects.  Class representatives are elected in grades four through eight and serve with our junior high elected officers.  The annual Hoe Down is a wonderful event organized by our Student Government and is a fun way to celebrate the change of seasons.

Our National Junior Honor Society serves as Ambassadors for HFCS.  There are many events in which these students lead tours and guide visitors around our school.  They also offer free tutoring for younger students and act as leaders in their classrooms.

Another opportunity for students to serve our school community is through our fantastic Safety Patrols.  They ensure that each child arrives and departs our school safely.  This group of fifth and sixth graders persevere with great attitudes in all weather conditions.  They look forward to the bi-annual Washington, D. C. trip.

Eighth grade students anchor and produce our Wildcats School News weekday mornings in our Television Production Lab.  They work as a team to create a newscast that is informative and engaging to their viewers.  Throughout the year, the students present clues and riddles as a challenge to the school.

There are a number of annual academic contests the are available to our students.  The Modern Woodmen Speech Contest for sixth through eighth graders highlights the public speaking skills of our very talents students.  One of our alumni finished as a national finalist.  Our fourth and fifth graders also have an opportunity to compete in the Tropicana Speech Contest and we have held on to the trophy for consecutive years due to the great successes of our students.  The Science Fair has grown under the leadership of our faculty members to the greater Diocese and has developed into a major academic event hosted at a local high school.  Our students historically place and qualify for the Northeast Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair (NEFRSEF).  Sixth through eighth graders compete in our school Spelling Bee for a chance to participate in the Duval County Bee.
